Who Can Create a Petition
Only United States citizens and Los Santos residents can create and sign petitions. Each person may sign a petition only once.
Starting a Petition
You can create a petition on the Los Santos Mayor’s website. After submission, you’ll need at least 2 other people to support it. Once supported, the Petitions Office will review it. Petitions that meet the required standards will be published. You can start a petition here.
Viewing Submitted Petitions
You can view all the currently submitted petitions via this link (coming soon when a petition gets posted for the first time).
Petition Stages
Stage 1: Public Petition (3–19 Signatures)
Once published, your petition is visible to the public. The Petitions Committee may begin reviewing it even before it reaches the signature threshold.
Stage 2: Official Response (20–34 Signatures)
When a petition reaches 20 signatures, the Petitions Office will issue a formal response. The Committee may contact you for more information or speak to relevant departments.
Stage 3: Debate Consideration (35+ Signatures)
At 35 signatures, your petition will be considered for debate by the Mayor’s Office (Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief of Staff, and the Chair of the Petitions Committee). Most petitions at this level are debated, unless the topic has been recently addressed. You will be informed if the petition is not selected.
The Petitions Committee
The Petitions Committee reviews all published petitions. They can:
Contact you for more information
Invite you to speak with the Committee or city officials
Push for action from the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief of Staff, and Chair of the Petitions Committee.
Recommend a petition for debate
Petition Standards
To ensure petitions are clear, actionable, and respectful, all submissions must meet the following standards before being published on the Los Santos Mayor’s website.
1. Clear Purpose
Your petition must clearly state what you are asking the city to do. This can include:
Proposing a new city ordinance or policy
Requesting a permit or zoning change
Reporting infrastructure needs (e.g., potholes, broken streetlights)
Recommending changes to city services or facilities
Raising awareness of community issues or requesting official investigation
2. Specific and Actionable
Petitions should focus on a specific issue that the city government can reasonably act on. Vague or overly broad petitions may be rejected.
Examples:
Good: “Repair the broken traffic light at Vespucci and Alta St.”
Bad/Grounds for Denial: “Make Los Santos a better place.”
3. Local Relevance
The issue must directly affect the City of Los Santos or its residents. Petitions about federal issues or unrelated locations will not be accepted.
4. Respectful and Appropriate Language
Petitions must not include:
Hate speech or discriminatory language
Personal attacks
Threats, profanity, or slurs
False or intentionally misleading information
5. One Petition per Issue
Do not submit duplicate or nearly identical petitions. If multiple petitions cover the same topic, the Committee may merge them or keep only the one with the most signatures.
6. Factual Foundation
Your petition should be based on facts or observed issues. If applicable, include relevant details, dates, or documentation to support your case. Unsupported conspiracy theories or baseless claims will be rejected.
7. Written in Good Faith
Petitions must be submitted with sincere intent to improve the city or raise valid concerns. Trolling, joke petitions, or spam submissions will be denied and may result in account penalties.
